Charles is a freelance film director working across narrative, short form and commercial projects.
His films, ranging from 5 minutes to 50, have screened at more than 60 international film festivals including Clermont Ferrand, Tropfest, HRAFF, SXSW, Telluride, Slamdance, Flickerfest, and MIFF; picking up numerous awards leading to both an Academy Award shortlisting and an AFI AACTA nomination.
His decade of TVC work includes award winning campaigns for Tiger Beer, ANZ, Ford, CBA, Carlton Draft, Purex and MyState as well as not-for-profit organisations The Song Room, Good Sport, MIFF, NAIDOC Week and SIDS.
Charles’ aesthetic combines a visceral cinematic approach with a strong emphasis on characterisation and performance. Whether long form or short, the focus is always on creating films that are grounded, meaningful and resonant.
